Trading at Celestial Events: A Guide for First-Timers & Fae Veterans

One of the most beautiful fan-led traditions at Celestial Events is the art of trading trinkets and small gifts. It’s a wholesome, heartwarming way our community connects, sparks conversations, and makes special memories for you all. But if you’re new to this world, or simply wondering how it all works ... here’s everything you need to know to trade thoughtfully and meaningfully.
Trading is never required or expected. This is a fan-created tradition

First Things First: Trinket Trading Is Completely Optional
Let’s start here — trading is never required or expected. This is a fan-created tradition, not something we officially asked for, but something we’ve come to love and support because of how beautifully it brings people together.
Please note, you don’t need to bring or receive anything to belong. Just by being present, you’re already part of the magic.
What Is a Trinket Trade?
Think of them as tiny tokens of connection; handmade bracelets, stickers, bookmarks, keychains, buttons, notes, or any small, meaningful items that can be easily shared and cherished.
They’re a way to say “Hi, I see you, and I’m glad you’re here, let's be friends.”
Our Eight Golden Guidelines for Thoughtful Trades:

1. Keep it Light & Easy to Carry While it might be tempting to create something big and beautiful, remember that at events like the Celestial Events Starfall Ball, guests often don’t have bags or places to store items.
Tip: Save trades for smaller events earlier in the day like picnics, merch days or dance classes; that way people aren’t trying to juggle gifts while dancing in gowns!
2. Ask Before You Gift Not everyone is ready in the moment or has space to carry something - and some may not have brought anything to trade back, be ok to trade with someone and not always get a trade in return - you might just make someones day.
Always ask: “Would you like to trade?”And be 100% okay if the answer is “Not right now” or “I don’t have anything to trade.”
3. Don’t Invest Too Much This is about connection, not cost. You don’t need to spend lots of money; simple, creative, or even repurposed items are perfect. Your thoughtfulness is the real treasure.
4. Add Your Social Handle If you're comfortable, include a small card or tag with your Instagram or TikTok handle, so new friends can find you afterwards. It’s a wonderful way to continue the magic beyond the event.

5. Trades Can Be On-Traded — And That’s Okay!
Especially with bracelets and wearable items, trades often pass from wrist to wrist. It’s part of the fun, watching your little creation find a new home and maybe making even more connections on its journey.
6. Respect the Space
Please don’t sit in corridors or block pathways to trade. Be mindful of the venue and others trying to move around. A quick standing trade is always best!
7. Volunteers, Hosts & Cosplayers = Not Ideal to Trade With
As much as we love and appreciate our volunteers, security, and hosts, they’re often unable to carry items or respond to trade requests. Focus on trading between guests to ensure everyone can fully enjoy the experience.
8. Don’t Leave Gifts Behind
We’ve had moments where trades were accidentally dropped or left behind, and it can be really hurtful to the person who made them. If you receive something you can’t keep, try to respectfully return it or pass it on.
Most of All ... Have Fun & Be Kind
Trinket trading is one of the most joyful parts of the Celestial Events experience. It’s spontaneous, creative, and entirely about community and connection.
Whether you gift one token or a dozen, your kindness ripples through the event and helps make it a safe, magical place for everyone.
So bring your sparkle, your smile, and maybe a pocket-sized trinket or two and let the magic unfold.
